Forthcoming Titles Lists
African American Studies, 2013: Recent & Forthcoming Titles. Choice, v.50, no. 06, February 2013.

This issue of Choice marks the eleventh annual installment of African American studies in the popular “Forthcoming” series.  Regularly appearing each year in the February issue, this selected list, like the others in this series, is designed to provide information on new or about-to-be-published books of potential relevance for academic libraries.

In compiling this list, publishers were invited to submit title information for their 2013 publications.  Editors monitored publisher catalogs, websites, and book vendor Web pages to identify additional relevant titles.  This year’s list represents offerings from 52 publishers, a slight decline from previous years, when the number has hovered around the 60-publisher mark.  The bibliographic information was supplied directly by publishers or obtained from publisher catalogs and promotional materials; data include anticipated release date, price, and ISBN when these were known.  Estimated prices and dates are followed by “e.”  As in all lists of this type, release dates, prices, and even titles are subject to change at a later date.

The 127 titles mark a decrease of 9 percent from last year’s 142 titles.  History continues to be the biggest group with 39 titles, or 31 percent of the total, down a bit from last year’s 45 titles.  Education joins Sociology this year as the next largest groups, with 16 titles each.  Political science declined a bit from the 18 titles of last year, dropping to fourth place with 11 titles, while Literature titles continued their decline from last year’s 9 titles to this year’s 7.  The social sciences overall remains the largest category, with 86 titles, followed by humanities with 36 titles, nearly identical to last year’s 87 and 36, respectively.  Science and technology with five titles and reference with six titles both contain fewer titles than last year’s ten scitech and nine reference titles.

This feature would not exhibit the breadth and depth that it does without the participation of the publishers who responded to our call for submissions.  Choice offers sincere thanks to all who contributed to this list.
